Guitierrez Colosia Oloroso Sherry "Sangre y Trabajadero"

I was at Nopa mid-week and reconnected with their excellent range of Sherries. I thought an Oloroso would be perfect to take the chill out of the Bay Area's first cold streak of winter. I was excited to re- try the Guitierrez Colosia which I've had in the early Fall during the importer's (De Maison Selections) local trade show. The bodega makes a great price point Fino and Oloroso. The "Sangre y Trabajadero" which translates to "Blood of the Worker" has a textbook mahogany and old copper hue leading into a nose of almonds and briny sea element. My mouth was watering after one whiff! I was already full, but their roasted squid and chick pea app would of been a terrific compliment.

The wine had excellent depth on the mid-palate, mostly contributed by the age of the vines and a solera ageing process of 12 years before bottling.  This was a reasonable glass pour and should retail around the $16-18.00 range. This product might be hard to find in your local retailer. However, Bay Area enthusiasts and Sherry fanatics should contact De Maison Selections regional broker/distributer, Estate Wines Ltd. to find retail locations.
